Facebook has become a vital part of our everyday lives no matter how much we try to quit ourselves of the habit. It has brought the world together within a social system the likes of which can easily dwarf even a small nation! This was all the incentive the corporate world needed to take full advantage of this pseudo global village though.

Several conglomerates and small businesses have used the world’s largest social network to boost their sales and connect with new partners the world over. If you’re a newbie at this, then it’s best to know the basics before you plunge head first into a niche you’re clueless about:

Create a PROFESSIONAL Profile

First thing’s first-you have to create a profile that defines everything that is uniquely YOU. This includes entering your PROPER name, email address, fax number, postal code and cell number (if you want to) so that interested users can know who to contact. Try not to apply a nickname if you can help it. Few people have the patience and humor to tolerate funny guys when it comes to spending their hard earned money.

Build a Network

Facebook is all about networking after all. Your job is to add friends and relatives so that your own grows substantially. Why? That’s because your Facebook marketing success depends on how big your social network is and how well you are able to maintain it. The next step will be to start some events on your account and post it on your news feed. If they’re successful enough you can get more friend requests than you know what to do with!

Another good way to do that is to post every update you make in your marketing website as well as the links to any affiliate products. Try not to post advertisements on your Facebook page. Remember, this is a social gathering, not a pure marketing tactic. This will aid you in gaining your customer’s trust in a more amicable environment which can make them comfortable enough to give your business a try.

Connect With Like-Minded Individuals

Another good way to gain popularity is to connect with users that share your interests. This will definitely help you get the referrals you need to make yourself known to others in their own networks. People will be more willing to communicate if they know that you have their best interests at heart after all.

Use the Facebook Advertising Program

This is a pay per click program where you can invest your money in advertising your products/services effectively. However, the only drawback is the strict policies this social networking site pushes regarding the content you decide to put up on their site. Typically affiliate programs are not allowed to be put up in their advertising program so you may have very limited options. To avoid being ousted from the site, make sure that you go through the terms of service and policies regarding their advertising models.

You can’t go anywhere without hearing at least snippets of this social media website’s influence on both the general public and business tycoons as well. It’s not just a great way to meet and greet with the locals though. Studies have shown that a large number of small business owners and large ones are Tweeting away so as to promote their trade.

Why? That’s because Twitter can be used by almost anyone to connect with all kinds of people from all walks of life in a single social network that millions have used just as effectively. This makes it quite a powerful marketing tool but you still have to be careful how you’re using it. Knowing how to network on Twitter effectively does not mean you should jump ahead as soon as you get the chance to.

Don’t rush your debut on this social scene for one thing. You might commit a faux pas the likes of which can seriously damage any chances you have to increase your popularity.

Twitter is first a social media platform and a marketing tool second. Know what that means? It means you HAVE to make friends first before you can market your business effectively enough! Shy guys won’t have much luck either. However, try not to be over eager if you can help it. You don’t want to put off fellow tweeters before your networking strategy even takes off. They WILL remove you from their follow list if you aren’t careful, trust me.

The key is to take your time with this. Slow and steady will win you this race which is particularly true if you want to send a DM or Direct Message to someone. Word to the wise, don’t include a link to an affiliate product! You’re trying to make them like your charming personality, not be put off by your sales pitch! How to network on Twitter effectively does not mean that you need to prove something after all.

Of course there are only so many friends you can make. If you want to build an effective network, you have to pitch your ideas to your followers in such a way that they don’t realize you’re trying to market to them. A good way to do this is to focus on the chit chat in general by avoiding any business lingo from entering into the conversation. You have to make them think that you have their best interests at heart rather than you’re there to make money off of them.

Sharing interesting videos or music on your Twitter account is also a good way to reel in your niche enthusiasts. If you find something in the news or on YouTube you especially liked, then you can share the link on your account page. If you reeled in those followers using your target market, then chances are they will like it.

Podcasting has been around since the iPod decided to make its presence known. Downloading online video and audio files has become as easy as switching on your PC and plugging in your audio device. Podcasting gives you that with a bit of glamour. How many other online advertising strategies do you know of that allow you to engage with your target audience on such a personal level?

The art of podcasting (yes, it is an art form as you’ll see) is considered as one of those tools that can bring traffic to your website by enhancing your credibility online. That’s because it is actually a learning experience for both you and your audience regarding your technique and their interests. So you will need to know:

• Who is your target audience?

• What do they like?

• What makes them cringe?

• Why would they want to spend time listening to what you have to say?

• Who has the ability to learn from you?

• What are they worried about?

• What motivates them?

Once you know all of these things the next step would be to provide solutions for their dilemmas. Why? Who do you think people will gravitate more towards? Someone who actually cares for their needs or someone who just likes the sound of his/her own voice? This is also why you need a plan of action.

That’s what these podcasts are all about. Plan to have one ready each week if you want your audience to stay riveted to your site. Make sure that each has several smaller segments that can be produced independently, so that you don’t need to spend too much time on thinking up new ideas. No need to burn yourself out.

Think of it as a mini movie script that can propel your reputation to new heights. You may not see your name in lights, but at least your business may get the recognition it needs online. It may take several tries on your part before you record a perfect one, which you can then hone to perfection using editing software and by adding transitions, introductions and concluding credits..

Now that the podcast is complete, it’s time to upload it on to a podcasting site. Upload it to your own site if you have one or on exclusive podcasting sites. Word to the wise, try and add it as a feature on your own site if you want to generate traffic as quickly as possible.

Podcasting websites have a cyclic system which they use for every one that uploads their own. You see, at the end of each week, if a new podcast is uploaded it takes the place of the previous one. However, don’t worry if that happens to you. Usually an archive of prior podcasts is maintained on the producer’s site which can be viewed by those who need them.

Unfortunately not everyone can boast having both of these attributes. If a small time businessman includes himself/herself in the equation than that usually turns out to be a recipe for disaster. No one can think of managing a social media business presence without the aid of relevant management skills. You can opt to hire a social media manager to do the job for you which helps lesson the learning curve and saves you tons of hours.

One thing you must understand is that hiring a social media manager is not the be all and end all of online business management. You can’t just pay one off, sit back and dream of the oodles of cash just waiting to be tipped into your bank account. Before even thinking of hiring one, it’s always best to learn the ropes of social media management yourself. So, how should you go about it?

Get to know the lay of the land

The first thing you must do is to map out the online terrain and get to know the lay of the land. In layman’s terms that means you have to familiarize yourself with the best social networking and bookmarking sites and direct a large portion of your activities there.

Choose your tools wisely

Keep tabs on your most frequently visited sites and choose the most suitable tools to make your social management easier to manage. You can do that by regularly posting your progress online. Take Twitter for instance. If you have an account on that social media network along with a large following you can automate your tweeting with tools which will aid you in updating regularly.

Strategy is Key

Every website needs regular maintenance to keep it afloat. The same applies to business sites which need more than usual tune ups. The key to doing this is through website traffic analyzers like Google analytics which will provide you with detailed reports regarding where your traffic is coming from as well as the most used or popular keyword searches to your site.

The geographical diversity and density of your users can also be found out through the use of these analyzers making. This continuous update will allow you to strategize your business website accordingly.

Importance of Market potential

Be sure to check out the popularity of any good websites and blogs. When you find them try and have your advertisement campaign displayed on it especially if it is related to your products or services.

Don’t be the Needle in the virtual Haystack

The World Wide Web has been perceived as a potential business venture by billions of users around the world. Making your presence known in this dense corporate jungle can prove to be the key to many successful business ventures world wide. It’s therefore essential that you make yourself as visible as you can amidst the immense cluster of other business websites. You can do that by ensuring that you get listed in the top search results to help your enterprise.

Many companies and organizations are looking for ways to better promote themselves or small businesses through the use of social media accounts. However, with so many social media sites to join and to remain active, the company owners are looking to hire social media managers to assist with manage their social media accounts.

This is why recently there are many social media managers emerging on the Net. Some of these managers may have taken reputable courses or certifications that taught them how to deal with social media accounts and other means of promotion. Other social media managers just considered themselves as social media geeks that know a lot about the ins and outs in the social media trend.

Many social media managers share their products or services with the world through social media accounts such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Digg, Delicious, and many more. But most of the time they manage Twitter and Facebook accounts because these are the giant social media sites.

These social media managers act as if they own your Twitter and Facebook accounts. In Twitter for instance, social media managers use techniques to gain more followers for each account. Either the manager does it themselves or they advice you on how to gather more relevant followers to your account. More followers mean more potential customers to for your business. In Facebook they use the same strategy as Twitter.

Another role social media managers do is they see to it that every account you have in each social media site works everyday. This means that each account is active twenty-four hours a day, which increases visibility for your products and organization.

Other practices that social media managers do is that they resolve issues like browser capabilities, effective passwords, clear out spam, and some other related issues concerning online marketing.

In addition, they make sure that your business increases in popularity on the Net through blog posts and engagements on forums and other social media platforms. They simply transform the traditional word-of-mouth into writing opinions, comments, and reviews on other websites and blogs.

What is more amazing about being a social media manager they can correct or resolve problems quickly, most work virtually from the comfort of their own home. They can take a client call that wants something changed on his/her Twitter account. After hanging up with the client the task can be completed in just a matter of 10-15 minutes while doing other tasks. Which is great for both the client and the social media manager.

Being a social media manager requires some unique qualities to perform the job. First they need to be passionate, very knowledgeable, have good communication, be honest and authentic with their message these eminent a great social media consultant.

Since the innovation of Twitter and Facebook, what better way to promote your business than hiring an excellent social media manager?

But there are some ways you can outsource to freelancers and actually improve profit margins greatly just by having them do their job. One of the most important people to have on your side if you’re conducting business online (or off) is a social media manager.

Social media managers take a ton of work off of your shoulders and carry the burden themselves, freeing you up to focus on product creation and implementation. They can register and manage your existing social network accounts for you on a regular basis, so that your profiles don’t sit stagnant on sites like Facebook or Twitter.

This saves you many hours each day. While your social media manager is busy updating your status to your followers, cleaning up your accounts, creating accounts for you and engaging your audience in conversations, you’re free to work on other profit-pulling tasks.

You can maintain as much or as little control over the operations as you feel comfortable with. For example, you might want someone to go in and blog for you on a daily basis. Or perhaps you only want them to post the blog entries you’ve already written.

You might know exactly which sites you want to market on, or you could hand over the reins to the social media manager and let him or her develop an entire online strategy for creating a buzz using the world of web 2.0.

A good social media manager will know where your target audience is at on the ‘net, and they’ll be able to think of creative methods in which your brand can capture their attention using best practices (not blackhat spammy methods).

Some social media experts may even be able to provide ongoing education to your other employees to help them learn how to utilize the profiles they set up for your business. It can be both an internal and external process, depending on the size and involvement of your staff.

If you have an event coming up, like a sale or new product launch, then a social media representative can handle the buzz creation for that event and execute it in a way that helps you generate more interest for your occasion.

Most importantly, the social media manager will track the results of their campaigns and help you monitor what needs to be done to improve conversion rates from visitors so they turn into sales.

~Warm Regards,

This really isn’t a problem because there are many ways to advertise your business using free options.

The Internet provides us with one of the best ways to use word of mouth advertising campaigns to different people throughout the world. Here are some of the ways you can use the ‘net for free advertising for your small business:

1. Use press releases to advertise your products and services. Press releases can be used to promote an event or to launch a new product. They’re an easy way to promote your company and you can submit them to several different directories online. Some allow you to post them free, while others have upgrade releases that cost a fraction of what traditional advertisements would cost.

2. Join message board forums. This seems like a small way to advertise, but it’s really not. Some boards allow you to provide a link to your website in your profile signatures. People who visit the forum are curious and will check out the link to see what it is that you’re offering.

They’ll pass on that information to other people they know who may be looking for what you have to offer. If you join message boards that nicely complement your company’s products, then you may be able to post on the forum letting everyone know what you have that they need and where they can get it. You’ll have to check the forum’s Terms of Service to see what’s allowed.

3. Start a blog – or even a podcast! If you market your blog or podcast well, people will return time and time again to see what’s new with your business. If you decide to create a blog keep it fresh by posting a new blog post a few times a week. They’ll send other people from their own blogs and pass on the links to their friends.

4. Use social networking sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and MySpace. Some of these social sites like Facebook and MySpace allow you to join groups with likeminded people with whom you can connect. You can easily position yourself as the “go-to” person in your niche, and post links to your site promoting your products and services. There are broad social networks, like Squidoo, that showcase topics on every inch of the spectrum, and niche-specific social sites like the one for eco-friendly enthusiasts or baby boomers.

5. Use article marketing. Providing articles on other sites that have links to your website can drive more traffic to your domain. Using keywords in the articles can help the search engines find them and funnel more customers through to your offer.

It’s not hard to find numerous free ways to promote your small business – even if it’s an offline venture that you own. Every business needs a home on the ‘net, and the Internet can help you develop a loyal following in any demographic.

What other ways have you advertised on a shoestring budget? Leave your comments below.

In order for your trip to be a success you have to plan in advance. You have to decide where you’re going to go and how you’re going to get there, before you leave. Likewise, with Twitter, you need to sit down and set a few goals and determine how you’re going to achieve them before you start the journey. Here are just a few goals that you may want to achieve:

• Connecting with your customers
• Networking with people in your Niche and becoming the Expert
• Driving traffic to your blog/website

Before we go further, let’s take a minute to look at that last goal: Driving traffic to your blog/website.

This should not be your primary goal on Twitter. Driving traffic maybe great for SEO, but it’s not for a social networking site such as Twitter. You’re primary goals should be networking, connecting and providing great value. If you are successful with the first two goals then the traffic will follow.

Now, let’s take a look at these goals more in depth:

1. Connecting with Customers

Think back to when you first started your small business you did a ton of market research. This research was done to assist you in determining your target market. At this point, you should know who your target market is, what their needs are related to what you offer and how you can meet those needs.

For example, if you are a business coach, your research may indicate that currently small businesses are struggling and maybe you have a solution to their problem.

When you’re on Twitter, you want to search for people that own a small business who are struggling. Once you find them, you’ll want to offer advice that might help with their situation or maybe even make recommendations. Notice, I didn’t say “send them a link to your website” provide value to them first.

Twitter is not the place for a hard sell. Once your potential customer sees that you care about their problem, their going to want to know who you are and what you can do for them.

2. Networking with Industry Leaders and Become the Expert

Twitter is a unique place where you can follow, and be followed by, people who are leaders in your industry around the globe. You can keep up with what they’re tweeting about and interact with them. For example, if you own your own business and you just awarded one of your employees for being the Employee of the Month. You can publicly congratulate her by using @herTwitterName in your tweet. She’ll see this and you get noticed too.

If you offer advice, sharing great content and discuss current issues within your industry, you will soon be seen as someone who is an expert in your Niche. In some cases, this may lead potential clients to hire you over others without the social proof, or it may lead to your colleagues outsourcing work to you. In some situations, this could lead to you getting hired as a subcontractor for a project, because of your Twitter connection.

3. Driving Traffic to Your Website

Now, as I mentioned before, this should not be your primary goal for using Twitter. If you tweet nothing but links to your website you will appear as a spammer. So, put this goal in the backseat and focus your efforts on your first two goals, as we discussed above. Once you’ve taken care of those two goals and are consistently providing value to your customers and colleagues, the traffic will take care of itself. Just be conversational have fun and people will automatically gravitate towards you.

Now that you have your road map and you know where you’re going. Getting there will be much easier, more fun and cost effective. What other ideas do you have leave them in the comments area below.
