Growing Your Network on Facebook

q20531316728_2397I wanted to share some helpful insights into growing your network of friends on Facebook. As a business owner it’s really important to evaluate what you’re trying to accomplish with connecting to new friends. I wanted to share a few important points to get you started and to help in your continued success of growing your network.

1.  A nice photo of yourself. What makes you think I want to connect with your dog, cat, bird or mongoose? You are doing yourself such a disservice by not sharing a true photo. I don’t normally connect to people without a photo or that still have the silhouette Facebook Photo.

2. Completed biography. It’s very important to have this on your profile. For me to connect with others I always read the bio. If nothing is there, I ignore the request.

Here are a few ideas about things you might want to include:

• What you’re currently working on

• What you dream about

• What you aspire to accomplish in life.

3.  Send a nice message with your friend request. It amazes me how many invites I receive without messages. If I just met you in person, you wouldn’t just walk up to me and introduce yourself? So why is it okay not to do that on Facebook? It’s just the polite thing to do. And if you think about it, when someone sends something nice it’s much harder to deny the request.

I am not perfect in this area, but I sure try hard. When I send a request, and it gets accepted, I try to remember to write a thank you note on the wall of the accepting friend because it really is a privilege to be accepted into someone’s Facebook Family.

Facebook is a Social Media Platform that allows you to meet and cultivate life-long friendships. We need to treat it as if it were a gold mine.
