Another Way to Safeguard Against Identity Theft Prevention on Facebook

After connecting with so many great people on Facebook and many of the other awesome social media platforms, I have discovered how very important it is to protect your identity to avoid identity theft.

Social Media tools make it easy for people to collect your private information, especially if you have your privacy settings set too low. We all have to be aware of the dangers of identity theft.

For example, I have gone to many of my Facebook friends’ walls just to say “hello,” or check in, and more than half of the time my friends have their full birthday displayed because they didn’t know it could be changed. This is a very important piece of information that can make you vulnerable to identify theft.

Please feel free to share your comments and suggestions on how to avoid identify theft via social networking media. Please Retweet this post so you can help protect your friends.  And for my readers, I’d like to share this short, step-by-step video showing you how to remove the year that you were born from your Facebook profile.

  • Hi Karriann,
I was an attendee at an online Real Estate barcamp and one of the presenters said to NEVER add your birthday to Facebook. I added in the tweet stream that it is FUN to celebrate birthdays and to just take off the year of birth to prevent identity theft. It's great to hear others advocating the same thing! :)
  • good tip Karriann. Thanks for the reminder and the video!
