Adding the Twitter Button to Your Facebook Profile

Linking Twitter-13your social networks together in one place makes it easier for those who want to know more about you or to follow you to do it with the click of a mouse. It’s easy to do too. For example, you can connect your Facebook Profile to Twitter by adding one of those follower buttons? Here’s how to do it.
1. Go to http://twitbuttons.com and pick out the button you would like to use. There are many to chose from but you may have good reasons for choosing one over another. For example, to be consistent, the button I use here is the same one I use on my Facebook Fan Page.
Once you’ve chosen the button you want to use, you’ll need to put your Twitter Username in the top box so that the code is prepared properly for your Twitter account.

2. Next, go to your Facebook account and, at the bottom of your screen click on the word “applications.”. This brings up another menu. Click on “Browse more Applications,” then, in the “Search Apps” box type in “Extended Info”.

3. Finally, click on the “Extended Info” and a box will come up this is where you copy the code from the Twitter Button that you want to use. Then click on the “add to profile” button and this will save your changes. Then you can return to your Facebook page.

Would you like to connect your Facebook Profile to Twitter by adding one of those follower buttons?  This is a great strategy for spreading yourself between two networks.  How about if I give you step by step directions…pretty powerful.

1.  First go to http://twitbuttons.com and pick out what button you would like to use.  There are many to chose from….See my button here on top I use that one on my fan page.  Once you have chosen the button you want to use…be sure to put your Twitter Username in the top box so that the code is prepared properly for your Twitter Account.

2.  Now go over to Facebook and at the bottom of your screen it says applications click on it. It brings up a menu then click on Browse more Applications.  In the Search Apps box type in “Extended Info”.

3.  Click on the Extended Info and a box will come up this is where you copy the code from the Twitter Button that you want to use.  Then click add to profile button next save changes.  Go back to your Facebook page.

Hi Karriann – does this work for facebook fan Pages also, or just profiles? Thanks!

  • KarriannGraf

    Dear Karriann,
am afraid I don't get the box where I can copy paste the info from the twitter button, instead I get Extended Info and More extended info but no box in edit mode… Where did I go wrong?

  • Julie Bauke

I followed your instructions for both LI & FB and LI worked great. The FB button just shows up in my Status as having added it, but can't figure out how to get it to show up on the left like the LI did. HMMMMM

  • KarriannGraf

    Julie,

I am thinking you mean your Twitter Button not (FB button). Lets try this go to the bottom left corner of Facebook –>click on Applications ->Click Edit applications–>Look for the Extended info line and chose…edit settings…Now it says Boxes… Available(add) Click the add it should change to (Added). Refresh your page and see if it shows up on the left side.

Thanks for your tutorial. I find Facebook extremely hard to manipulate – nothing new here. I was unable to produce an image with a link on my profile. Using extended info, I was only able to add yet another text link on my info tab. Maybe that is what you were going for. I was unable to find a graphical link for twitter on your facebook profile as well. Maybe I missed something.

The other question I had was about getting linkedin and twitter badges on Facebook Fan pages. I have not had any luck with that either. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for the great content, I look forward to reading your posts!

Thanks again Karriann… I needed to add the twitter button to my Fan page… so it was the same as above except…

    at step 3)
    return to Fan page..
    >click on the tab that reads 'boxes'
    >you'll see your new twitter button there
    >click on the pencil next to it
    >click 'move to wall'

voila! your twitter button is now on your fan page!

Thanks Karriann for taking the stress out of twitter buttons!

PS I experienced the same problem as Madeleine at first.. but facebook can be tricky… I removed the application, logged out to allow facebook to re-set.. logged back in and tried again.. and it worked second time round.

I'm learning that if Facebook isn't playing ball don't waste your time..

    just log out..

    have a cup of tea..

then return when it's learned it's lesson!

Takes the stress out of it!

    Dear Karriann:

I’m following your instructions on how to add a twitter button to facebook however the steps fall apart at the end. No box exists after clicking ‘Extended apps’. Any help?

I’m having the same problem as Madeleine, and I have tried what Ruth suggested but that’s not working for me either. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

  • KarriannGraf

I have to do some research to see if maybe facebook has changed the way you add the button since I did this post some time ago. Thanks for comments and I will get back to you soon =0)

I made a video a few months back and I edited it today. Hopefully this helps with some of the problems with adding the Twitter button to your Facebook profile Page. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSPMQO5eJEM

I don't see the word “Applications” anywhere on the bottom of my FB page. There is only “About · Advertising · Developers · Privacy · Terms · Help”. Is this tip out of date?
